I went the first time last week and I have to say I just loved this little place. The atmosphere is just great and I had the special which was Like Ravioli only it looked like wrapped presents stuffed with Sausage and cheeses and spices. It was to die for..and so good with the Cabernet. I plan on going back again to try their Pizza.the service was superb and the bread basket was great. I have never been to a place that there was such a variety of different breads for the basket, which was awesome. i recommend anyone to go there and give it a try.

My parents have been taking me here since I was young. I've never had a bad experience. Last time I was there I got a tortellini with Alfredo/pesto and it was to die for!

In North Minneapolis on business and had a craving for some Italian food... Found this place after searching on Yelp! Rolled into a pretty non-descript strip mall and found Guiseppe's. They have a pretty good lunch menu (most pastas and sandwiches under $10). I opted for a chicken parm lunch special, which came with salad and one of their signature breadbasket a for $12.95. I thought the salad was good (they make their own homemade dressings). The bread basket would have been great if they'd make the bread the day of/before (I think it was from last week... Pretty much a bunch of varieties of white bread, and a poor rendition of an Italian loaf of bread). The chicken parm was great and came with a side of spaghetti. Both were covered with a sauce that if I didn't know better was Prego. Regardless, food was filling, service super friendly and I can now say I had lunch with Frank Sinatra (Best Of playing in background!) Here's the rundown: Satisfied? Yes Return? Yes Advocate? Yes

Had dinner with two friends today. The special of the day was Spinach Lasagna for $12.95 accompanied by either soup or salad. The salad was little disappointing, rather run of the mill iceberg/carrot/Roma tomato mix. My companions opted for the mushroom soup, which had the consistency of clam chowder, very thick and heavy on the flour. The bread basket was nice, but if the bread had been warmed a bit , it would of been better. We asked for more bread and were informed that the restaurant had run out of bread... The lasagna was well portioned and quite tasty. One of the better renditions I've had in the Twin Cities. Copious amounts of ricotta cheese abound in this dish. Could of used more spinach, and kudos the chef for using fresh spinach. Not a bad neighborhood choice. Would consider returning there if in the vicinity.

I just had their Veggie Pizza! It was the best Veggie ever!! The crust was hand tossed and fresh. The tomato sauce was perfect and the veggies were fire roasted and wonderful and topped with the perfect amount of cheese. I have always lived near a Pizza Luce and thought when I moved to New Brighton that I was in pizza he!!. I have now found the best pizza ever. Better than P L.

Nondescript strip mall location but really worth the visit. Bread basket had pepperoni bread, garlic twists, pesto bread and plain bread for dipping in olive oil or the sauce. The spinach & chicken stuffed cannelloni was tasty. Desserts - tiramisu, Nanna's bread pudding, cannoli and pistachio flavored spumoni ice cream - all yummy! Nancy our server was fun and gracious. We highly recommend a visit!

A nice little place to get dinner. Friendly, competent service and good food. If you're on a low-carb diet, Italian food as a whole isn't for you. If you aren't counting carbs, however, this is worth the time. The bread pudding makes me want to cry, it's so good. Definitely making a return visit.

One of our favorite spots. The world needs more places like this. The owner is in the kitchen making the food. It always tastes good the prices are right. Try it - you'll like it it.

We live nearby and have eaten here many times over many years. Food is always good, not always great. Servers have mostly worked there several years and are attentive and friendly. Bread is great! There is almost always a wait on weekends and sometimes during the week. We last ate here on Oct 1st 2010 and enjoyed the seafood linguine and Italian sausage sandwich and minestrone soup very much!

Great homemade bread assortment served with meals. Chicken Marsala and antipasto salad are 2 favorites. Food is always good. Service can be slow at times.

Took my husband there for a meal and he ordered the manicotti. When the dish came to the table there were two small pieces and we told the server it was a small portion which she agreed, she said there wasn't a manager there so there wasn't anything she could do. Thd dish was $12.95 l was very unhappy about the portion size so I called to speak to a manager two days later , I got the owner on the phone and explained what happened. She said to me "do you want your money back." I said YES I want my money back, well she than told me " I can't give you your money back, you ate the meal," and this is how the owner handles and unhappy customer! They should be ashamed of them selves. Extremely unhappy with the way this was handled

In the north burbs you don't find many places worth a return visit, but this hidden gem proves you can't judge a book by the cover. Inside is an Italian delight. A real neighborhood restaurant in a strip mall.

A hidden gem. The homemade bread basket is full of a variety of breads, but each bread is as delicious as the next. I would highly recommend the seafood linguini, packed with shrimp, scallops, clams, and mussels, and their hearty portions give you enough for a great lunch the next day. Service has always been friendly and attentive.

It's kind of an off the path strip mall, so they did what they could with the simple decor. It's divided on 2 sides. I got the baked mostacholli with a meatball. Not the most memorable but pretty good. Served in an au gratin dish on top of a plate. Dump it out because it gets wobbly and cools it down. The sauce is thinner and sweeter than most others, but not bad at all. I love the homemade salad dressings. I was scraping the bowl to get the last of a rare creamy Italian. The bread bowl is everything They say it is. Including a wedge of pepperoni bread. Speaking of bread, don't skip mama's bread pudding when available, it's awesome. If you live in the surrounding area, do give it a try once in awhile.

Under-appreciated and under-utilized Italian restaurant close to (my) home. I keep forgetting that this place is here. It doesn't help that their kitchen closes at 8:54pm most nights and with our hectic lifestyle, we are usually looking for a place to eat right near their closing time. When we do get there, we find attentive service, a FABULOUS bread basket and comfortable Italian food made with fresh ingredients. Last night I had the Ziti and the gals I was with both had seafood linguine. We were all very pleased with our meals (The 2007 Rancho Zabaco zin didn't hurt). We keep hearing from friends and neighbors that the pizza is fabulous, but still have not tried it. Next review, I guess ...

I wanted to take my uncle to lunch so we had planned to go to an Asian restaurant I wanted to try in Fridley, MN. However, he suggested we go to his favorite Italian place not too far from his house. So we went to Giuseppe Italian Ristorante. Hidden away in a non-descript strip shopping center with no viable signage from the street that I noticed was just a wonderful Italian eatery. I am a big fan of Italian food and try to indulge whenever I am in a new area. I had a wonderful lunch of Italian sausage and meatballs in a tasty red sauce along with a side salad and the best homemade Italian bread basket I have ever experienced. The food was great! The service was prompt, knowledgeable and very friendly. The ambiance was very rustic Italian. I will be sure to go back with my Aunt, Uncle and my girl friend for dinner. Try it! It will be worth your while.

I've been meaning to try this place for years. On my first visit, we had excellent service and good food. Everyone at our table had red sauce dishes, and we were happy with them. The meatballs are excellent. The homemade bread basket was also delicious. The only problem we had was that we were unable to try the dessert we wanted because it wasn't available. But, we ended up with the one last piece of carrot cake in the house and wished they'd had more of that on hand too. Good experience - will go back and try more.

Over priced and bland tasting. Two stars because waitstaff was nice. I think my alfredo was made from a powder and they must use canola oil for their olive oil... it had absolutely no flavor.

A small, cozy, place. Food was only okay (calamari appetizer was amazingly bland) but the dinner portions were decent and the bread basket was interesting. A shade pricey for the quality, we thought, but we left full. The decor was good and the service friendly.

I've eaten at Giuseppe's more times than I care to remember over the years. I realize they have switched ownership in recent years and it's not as good as it used to be. It's still pretty good, IMHO. The staff are friendly and helpful, albeit a bit on the slow side sometimes. This isn't the place to go if you want a quick lunch or dinner. The atmosphere is cozy and they pack 'em in, so go early. The one thing I definitely crave at Giuseppe's is their pizza. That factor alone carries my 3 star rating. Thin, crackery crust, tangy sauce, fresh vegetables and zesty meat. And they don't skimp on the cheese. It is incredible.

This place is very interesting and I may have under-rated it just a bit. Maybe a 3 1/2. They bake their own bread, and they do that fantastically. They also make an amazing pizza. I've found a couple of standard pasta dishes that I've grown to love as well. I wouldn't say that this is fine dinning at all....it's just real good home cooking. It's kinda like what you may get if you come home from a long day at school in the italian country side and your mom has made you a nice simple dinner. It may be a little bit overpriced...but I've still gone back many times.

I started this with two stars and as I wrote I realized that "Eek! Methinks not" really expresses my opinion. And, like any and all reviews here, it is just my opinion. I've been to Giuseppe's at least three times. First time I thought it was great; after that, not so much. We took my 82-year-old sister there for dinner last week. She wasn't all that enthused about the idea, saying that last time she'd been she didn't like it much. We went there anyway (location was a big factor at the moment). I had the spaghetti with sausage. The sausage was good - a big link, moist and not overcooked and dry. The angel hair was okay and I was pleased that they were willing sub capellini for the regular fat spaghetti that I don't like. "I'll see if they have it; they might not." The sauce was abysmal. I'm sure it was a can of tomato sauce, nekkid. There was no flavor to it other than tomato and the consistency was that of commercially-canned tomato sauce. Instead of salad I had the cream of mushroom soup. That was bad news: the grittiness that I associate with just slightly-undercooked potatoes made into potato soup, with about six mushroom pieces in it. Large pieces of mushroom made me wonder if they'd salvaged them from a pizza. The others ordered the minestrone and it came to table lukewarm; one was sent back for nuking. The breads brought to mind the Tuscan bread I ate in Tuscany--no salt, no flavor. I don't know what's happened--that the others with me didn't like it either dispelled my fleeting thought that "maybe it's just me." About 1/3 of the tables had customers at them and there appeared to be one server for all of us. It was 6:30 p.m. on a Tuesday. Giuseppe's has been around for a long time. I don't know what's happened for them but I have no more interest in driving across town to eat there. :-(

Meals come with an excellent variety of home-made breads + Soup or Salad with most dinners is under $13. They have some nightly specials, which is nice. I usually get a half order of Spumoni for under $3, the desserts are all under $6... not sure if you can do a half order of all desserts, but for those single travelers its worth the ask... they seem very accomodating and attentive staff. I would recommend over any other chain in the MN area in terms of value and good authentic Italian food. I'm from Chicago and go there when in town for work every chance I get , even if it means I have to drive a little way and skip the mall stores... it's worth it. I've gone by 5 pm most times and there's never seemed to be a wait.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
